Arietha Lockhart, Soprano
Holiday Concert, December 3, 2006
Arietha Lockhart, music specialist in DeKalb County, has sung with the Atlanta Symphony Chorus and Chamber Chorus, appearing as soloist with that group in Carnegie Hall. She presented her debut recital at Weill Recital Hall (at Carnegie Hall) in 2003. She has won numerous vocal competition prizes, including the National Opera Association Competition's Legacy Award (professional) and the Meistersinger Competition in Graz, Austria. Her largest audience, however, never actually saw her perform; she was the haunting voice of the white butterfly in the world broadcast of the 1998 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

Ana Baksheeva, Violinist

Anna Baksheeva began her violin studies at the age of 5. At age 9, she studied in a music college in her home town of Vladivostock, Russia, and transferred to the St. Petersburg Music College at the age of 11. At age 16 she was chosen to make a concert tour in America under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club. She has played with the Dekalb Symphony Orchestra, and is presently studying music at the University of Georgia.

John LaForge, Baritone
Spring Concert, May 6, 2007
John LaForge is Coordinator of Music Education for the Fulton County (GA) Schools. Previously, he served as choral director at Tri-Cities (magnet) High School. He holds B.A. and M. Mus. (in voice) degrees, and has studied toward a doctorate in opera performance at Florida State University. He is an associate conductor and soloist with the Michael O’Neill Singers in Atlanta. As a solo artist, he has performed with major opera companies across the U.S. and in Europe. He works with numerous arts organizations in the metropolitan Atlanta area, and was recently named the Georgia Director for the Metropolitan Opera.

These artists have served as “quartet in residence” at Georgia Perimeter College since the fall of 2005. Their stated mission is to entertain and educate the metro community through concerts, recitals, public broadcasts, and recordings. Members of the ensemble include Slava Prudchenko, Kathy Farmer, Laura Philpott, and Jeanne Giager.

Eddie Card, Guest Conductor
Spring Concert, May 4, 2008
Rev. Card conducted the Sanctuary Choir of Briarlake Baptist Church on the 2008 spring concert and conducted the combined Sanctuary Choir and CHORALE II in several selections. He holds a B.M.Ed. from Samford University and a M.C.M. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He joined the staff of Briarlake Baptist Church in May, 2001 as Minister of Music and Worship. He has also served other churches in Texas, Arkansas, Alabama and Georgia.

Rebecca Lanning, Mezzo Soprano

Rebecca Lanning has performed in recital, opera, and oratorio concerts throughout the U.S. and in France. In 2002, she was a national semi-finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Auditions. She was named the 2004-2005 Young Artist of the Year by the Gretchen Benche Endowed Recital Series. She has recently appeared with the Central Florida Symphony, Valdosta Symphony, Albany Symphony, Macon Symphony, the Birmingham Museum of Modern Art, and the Emerging Artists Series at Kennesaw State University. As a member of Robert Shaw’s Chamber Singers and Festival Singers, she has performed several times at Carnegie Hall. She was music director/conductor of the Macon Civic Chorale from 1994-2001, and is currently Head of the Music Department and director of the Chamber Singers at Macon State College.

Larry Saggus and Jason Payne, Duo Pianists

Jason Payne grew up in Tucker but later moved to Loganville, Georgia. He began his organ training at First Baptist Church of Snellville and continued studies while at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC under Dr. Ed Dunbar. Jason has been organist at First Baptist Church of Snellville and First Baptist Church of Atlanta before joining the staff of Briarlake Baptist in Decatur in October 2008. He is employed in his family appliance business in northeast Atlanta. Lawrence D (Larry) Saggus, Jr., a native of Tucker, Georgia, began piano instruction in the 4th grade. While attending Tucker High School he won First Place in the Georgia high school state piano competition. He served as pianist at Tucker First Baptist Church, North Atlanta Baptist, Wieuca Road Baptist, Donaldson Drive Baptist, and Raytown Baptist churches. In December, 2007 he joined the staff of Briarlake Baptist Church in Decatur
